Erez Law is currently investigating former The Tavenner Company broker Dean Mings (CRD# 1197212) regarding investment losses. Mings was registered with The Tavenner Company in Springfield, Ohio from 2002 to 2018, when he was terminated regarding “RR violated firm policy by (1) failing repeatedly to disclose an outside business activity (which entailed acting as trustee of a living trust), (2) failing to send to the home office maintenance records related to a variable annuity, and (3) failing to inform the firm that he had power of attorney for an individual who held an open securities account with the firm.”

Mings has been the subject of two customer complaints between 2005 and 2019, one of which was closed without action, according to his CRD report:

September 2019. “Claimant alleges that the firm failed to supervise Dean Mings’ activity related to now deceased customer Lucille Poe. Claim has been filed by the customer’s sister-in-law, which was initiated after the customer’s passing. Specific allegations include unsuitable recommendations related to the purchase of both annuities and life insurance, forgery of customer’s signature by registered representative, unethical and improper conduct by rep by having power of attorney over customer and being named partial beneficiary of a variable annuity held by customer, loss of return through imprudent investment recommendations by the rep, and rep “Selling away” by assisting the customer with purchase of private security not approved by the firm.” The customer is seeking $600,000 in damages and the case is currently pending. The complaint was regarding fixed annuities, variable annuities, common and preferred stocks, and insurance.

Pursuant to FINRA Rules, member firms are responsible for supervising a broker’s activities during the time the broker is registered with the firm. Therefore, The Tavenner Company may be liable for investment or other losses suffered by Ming’s customers.
